Utah snow forecast: Schools closed – SNOWSTORM causes slide offs – List of school closures

A major winter storm has wreaked havoc on the US state of Utah, prompting several school districts to close down. On Wednesday morning, the commute got chaotic along the Wasatch Front, a metropolitan region in the north-central part of the state. The snow turned road traffic treacherous with numerous slide-offs and crashes.

According to TV station KSL, Salt Lake County was hit the hardest but commuters from Ogden to Utah County also experienced slick conditions.

Utah Department of Transportation spokesman John Gleason tweeted: “If you have any flexibility with your schedule, or if you can work from home, today is the day.

“Please avoid driving this morning if possible. UDOT snow plows are out in force, but driving conditions remain difficult this morning. Please stay safe!”

Utah’s official workforce services has also closed the state office until midday on Wednesday.

In a tweet the service said: “Due to unsafe road conditions, state offices will not open until NOON TODAY, Feb. 6.

“This includes Workforce Services employment centers, Vocational Rehabilitation offices and phone services, including unemployment insurance and eligibility services. #utpol.”

In addition, Little Cottonwood Canyon is closed for avalanche control until approximately 9am, while Big Cottonwood Canyon is expected to close from 11am to 12pm, also for avalanche control.

People are urged to stay updated on their local weather service as more snow showers are expected throughout the day.
