Theresa May SLAPS DOWN Dennis Skinner with this BRILLIANT response to veteran leftie

Mr Skinner told the Prime Minister about his experience speaking to NHS workers, who told him the “best” time to work for the health service was under Tony Blair’s Labour Government.

The Labour MP for Bolsover, who was wished happy birthday by the Commons Speaker John Bercow, said he doesn’t celebrate age.

Mr Skinner added: “There are another group of people that need help, and they are the people who work in the National Health Service.

“And, what they told me, last week, was the best period they ever experienced was in the Labour Government when they had the money increased from £33bn in 1997 to £100bn in 2010.

“That was a golden period. Why did they do it? How did they do it? The Chancellor of the Exchequer put one percent on the National Insurance and that went directly to the health service and its long-term stability.

“Under this Government, they don’t know whether they are coming or going. It’s high time this Government did the same as we did between 1997 and 2010.”

A stern-looking Mrs May leapt to the Dispatch Box before delivering the brutal slap down on Mr Skinner.

The Prime Minister said: “Happy birthday, Dennis.

“Can I say to the Honourable Gentleman, he says why were the Labour Party in that position of being able to spend more on public services…

“I’ll tell him why! Because a Conservative Government had left a golden economic legacy.”

The Prime Minister’s rebuke received a rapturous reception from the House of Commons, who required Speaker Bercow to calm them.
