Tess Daly then & now: From modelling to Strictly Come Dancing – how she's changed

Many TV fans will recognise from presenting alongside Claudia Winkleman. She has co-presented the show since 2004, initially co-hosting with the late Bruce Forsyth until he left the show in 2013. The star, whose full name is Helen Elizabeth Daly, hails from Stockport originally. She has two daughters, Phoebe Elizabeth and Amber Isabella, with her husband Vernon Kay. Before Strictly Come Dancing, Tess had a very lengthy career as a model and TV star. She was scouted at just 18-years-old and undertook her first modelling job in Tokyo. After a series of work assignments across Asia and Europe while based in London, she was based in Paris for five years. She then returned to London for six months, before moving to New York for work for five years.

In 1990, Daly appeared in two Duran Duran videos for the songs “Serious” and “Violence of Summer (Love’s Taking Over)”, both from the album Liberty. She also appeared nude in the video for The Beloved’s 1993 song “Sweet Harmony”.

After a few red carpet interviews, in 2000, she sent a showreel to the producers of Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast.

A look back at old photos show a much younger Tess Daly, sporting a shoulder-length bob, slim fitted jeans and tight tops.

Now a mum-of-two, Tess is known for her sophisticated style. The 50-year-old recently turned heads on the Strictly Come Dancing launch night as she wore a high split velvet dress.

Tess recently opened up about her fears of ageing.

Speaking in a recent interview with Health and Fitness Magazine,Tess hit out at the way female television presenters over the age of 40 are treated, with hope the attitude changes when her daughters grow up.

“As soon as you hit 40, you have to defend your right to be that ‘great age’, and still working in the media. But why should I defend my great age?” she said.

“You only notice [the age question] when you keep being asked about it. It just seems sexist and limiting. I hope it changes for our daughters.”

Nevertheless she admitted she does worry about ageing, saying: “I mean, I’ve got wrinkles and it’s inevitable they’ll get worse.”

So does Tess have plans to go under the knife to reverse the signs?

“I’m not ready to go down that line’ and instead ’embraces’ her wrinkles,” she insisted.

“You can see in the flesh I haven’t had any work done because there are wrinkles. But you know what? I embrace it. I’m happy. Life’s a journey, right?” she added.

The 35-year-old lost an incredible five stone and slimmed down from a dress size 22 to a 10 by embarking on a new fitness plan.

Catherine explained she focused on both diet and exercise to help her stay in shape.
