Man Utd news: What Ed Woodward’s summer transfer plans are – involves four players

Manchester United chief Woodward is set to back whoever the Red Devils’ next permanent manager is when the transfer window reopens this summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in pole position to land the job on a full-time basis, despite Tuesday’s chastening Champions League defeat to PSG.

Mauricio Pochettino also has his admirers among the Manchester United hierarchy, and Wednesday’s stunning Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund will no doubt see his stock rise.

The Mirror say that Woodward has recognised United need to overhaul their squad again when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.

And the report suggests he is targeting four players.

He would like to sign a centre-back, with Kalidou Koulibaly of Napoli their priority target.

The Senegal international was linked with a move to Old Trafford during the January transfer window.

And a summer pursuit now looks likely with Napoli primed to demand a huge £90million to let him go.

Woodward also supposedly feels United need two new full-backs, with Atletico Madrid’s Lucas Hernandez and Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic potential targets.

Both Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young are approaching the tail end of their respective careers, despite the latter signing a contract extension earlier this month.
