Liverpool news: Pundit reveals why Man City will determine Bayern Munich result

That is the view of ESPN’s Craig Burley.

The Reds travel to Munich on Wednesday night in an attempt to make it through to the quarter finals.

Jurgen Klopp’s side lost to Real Madrid in last season’s final, and will be looking to go one better this time around.

However, they have a strong chance of winning their first ever Premier League title, and are currently just one point behind league leaders Manchester City.

With just eight games remaining this season, it is possible that Liverpool’s attention will be on domestic honours rather than Europe.

City, however, are gunning for a quadruple this season, and have more games to play as a result.

As they have never won the Champions League, many fans believe that they are in the opposite position to Liverpool, and will prioritise their European ambitions.

Ahead of the Reds’ trip to the Allianz Arena, Burley explained on ESPN FC that Bayern are more likely to come out on top.

“I know they [Liverpool] got back to winning ways at the weekend but they’re still trailing Man City,” he said.

“They weren’t playing super convincingly against Burnley.

“And Bayern are back now, they’re joint top of the Bundesliga with [Borussia] Dortmund, they got six at the weekend, the players are all happy.

“[Thomas] Muller is back in the side, James [Rodriguez] is playing well, it’s a real, real difficult one [for Liverpool].

“Liverpool are going to play on the counter.

“I was disappointed with Liverpool at Anfield, I really thought they were going to go for the jugular, get the crowd behind them and pressurise Bayern early on, but that didn’t happen.

“I think the pendulum has swung back in Bayern’s favour, particularly with the game being at home, and with Liverpool having to focus on the Premier League.”
