EMBARRASSING! BRAZEN thief steals police van from UNDER THE NOSES of officers in Suffolk

The thief has risked embarrassing Suffolk Police after he went on a joyride in the vehicle. He was spotted by members of the public driving the Vauxhall Vivaro recklessly around the county. He had stolen the van from right under the noses of officers after driving it out of the Lowestoft police station car park.

Suspicions were first raised when passersby saw the man getting into the driver’s seat of the van while wearing casual clothes.

A statement from the police said: “Officers received a call from a member of the public stating a male got out of a marked police van at about 9.25pm in the Lowestoft area and then struggled to get back in the vehicle.

“Once he had done so, he drove away down Whapload Road.

“The member of the public said the male was wearing a T-shirt and jeans.”

The van was later found abandoned at around 1am this morning.

The police vehicle was located in Bungay, about 15 miles away in a neighbouring town.

However, before police managed to retrieve the vehicle the audacious criminal had took the van for a lengthy ride.

The police statement continued: “Police received a further report from a member of the public stating a marked police van was being driven erratically at about 9.30pm in the Kessingland area, and going in the direction of Pakefield.

“A further report was also received at 9.50pm in the Holton area of Halesworth.

“It is thought the van was driven by a white male in his late 20s and was of medium build.”

Despite the reckless driving, no members of the public were hurt according to the police.

The thief has so far managed to escape without punishment as officers continue their inquiries to identify the culprit.
